About Ms. Gillingham ...

She is the author of AUTISM: HANDLE WITH CARE. Gail Gillingham is active internationally in the field of autism. She began working with children with autism as a supervisor of an institution that provided living accomodations and related services. Interestingly, Gail takes great pride in being "fired" from that position because she couldn't keep silent about the abuses and improper treatment given to the residents of the home. While becoming more active in the field of autism, she didn't forget the residents that she had cared for. She made the parents and the public aware of the poor treatment that she had observed until the home was finally closed.

Gail has developed methods of helping children with autism improve their behavior management. Her methods are steeped in her understanding that all actions of the child or adult with autism have reasoning, even if it is not apparent to those living in the "normal" world.

Educated in Psychology, Gail manages Autism-Consulting Service in Edmonton, Canada. This service goes into homes and schools to educate parents, teachers, and other care-givers to assist them in understanding ASD/PDD children and their needs, and methods of helping them. She was a consultant to the respected BBC program, "A is for Autism" and has been a speaker on autism at conferences in Canada, the United States and England.

Children with ASD/PDD are asked to think and act different than how they might find natural for themselves everyday. Gail Gillingham's approach will challenge you to change YOUR behavior toward these children as well. Attend her presentation, and revolutionize the way you behave toward, and feel about autism spectrum disorders.
